Where it is held
Sant Nirankari Adhyatmik Sthal, G.T. Road, Samalkha, Haryana. It sits on the main Delhi–Chandigarh highway a few kilometres out of Samalkha town, towards Ganaur.
Getting there
- By train: Samalkha and Bhodwal Majri are the nearest stations, both on the Delhi–Ambala line. Extra trains normally stop here during the Samagam, including some that don't stop the rest of the year.
- From the station: Samagam buses run from both Samalkha and Bhodwal Majri stations, timed to the trains. Autos and e-rickshaws are there too. We have set out the trains stopping specially at Bhodwal Majri in a table you can read on a phone.
- Parking: most people park inside the Samagam grounds. Please do not park along G.T. Road — it is not allowed, however many cars you see doing it.
- By road: the venue is on G.T. Road (NH-44), roughly 90 km north of Delhi and about 20 km south of Panipat.
- Once you are here: Samalkha town is only a few minutes from the venue, and has everything you are likely to need for a few days — food, a doctor and a chemist, a bank, photo prints and daily shopping.
A few local notes
- It gets cold. Late October evenings in Haryana turn sharp after sunset, and mornings are colder still. Visitors from warmer states are usually caught out. Carry something warm.
- The town fills up. Rooms and rented houses in and around Samalkha go early. So does everything else — plan food and travel with some slack.
- Staying at the Samagam. Accommodation on the grounds is in tents. If your family would rather have a room, arrange one in town well before you travel.
- On the grounds. Drinking water, toilets and first aid are available. There are four grounds, A, B, C and D. Buggies and wheelchairs are available at the satsang ghar for anyone who cannot walk the distances.
- Tents are allotted by state. Families from nearer places — roughly Karnal down to Ghaziabad — are not given tents, on the reasoning that they can travel home. If you are coming from one of those districts, plan to return the same day or arrange a room early.
- Food beyond the langar. Alongside the free langar there are regional canteen stalls across the grounds, open from early morning until late at night. Prices are noticeably below the printed rate — a bottle marked ₹20 sells for about ₹16, one marked ₹40 for about ₹34.
- Driving in. Vehicles are checked at the entrance near the piao, and there is a 15 km/h speed limit inside. Allow time for the queue at the gate.
- Luggage. Lockers are available for families staying in the tents.
- Traffic on G.T. Road is heavy through these days. Leave earlier than you think you need to.
What to bring
- Warm clothes, more than you think. The days are pleasant and the evenings are not. Mornings on open ground are colder again.
- Shoes you can walk a long way in. The ground is large and you will be on your feet for most of the day.
- Some cash. There are ATMs in Samalkha and in the villages around it, so you will not be stuck. The queues simply get long over these few days, and carrying a little is easier than standing in one.
- Any regular medicines. Chemists in town are well stocked and easy to find. It is just simpler to bring what the elders take every day than to go looking for it in an unfamiliar place.
- Do not count on your phone. When this many people gather in one place the mobile network struggles. Agree a meeting point with your family before you separate, rather than planning to call.
